DIN DIN A CURATED COMMUNITY POTLUCK FOR CREATIVES / PHILOSOPHY AND FILM EDITION FINALISTS

For September 2019 DIN DIN, DE-CONSTRUKT welcomed artists and filmmakers to submit their philosophical short film to be screened during the evening. International and local New York filmmakers enthusiastically sent us their philosophical shorts varying in topics such as: movement, immigration, linguistics, technological advancements, politics, social issues, chemistry, perception, and dreams to name a few. Artist and studio assistant Alexandra Banhazl invited the filmmakers and guests to participate in collaborative philosophical discussions about the topics presented in the films.

Traces:Birds – Jean-Michel Rolland [1:00]
November in Marseille, starlings gather on a crane before their big departure to Africa. The photographic trace, lost within the film, is here reinvented to show the flight of birds under a new aspect. Will their freedom of movement forever remain a distant dream for humanity?

Stay Where You Are! – Anna Pasztor [5:43]
“Stay Where You Are!” is a visual meditation about the clash between the dreams and desires for a better life and the coldhearted existence in the current climate in our globalized world. With special regard to children. No words needed. This video was created as a "screen composition" for the 2019 Edition of the Experimental Intermedia Festival of New York.

Build Me A Cottage - Pat Von Boekel [3:50]

Hermaphroditus - Nicholas Economos [3:03]
This video is a composite of two clips made during an artist residence at Signal Culture, Owego, NY in May 2016. The source clips were generated using a Raster Manipulation Unit, aka Wobbulator and recorded to a video camera directly from the display monitor. The ambient sound of the studio for the audio track reflects that experience.

Part 2: Contemplating Reality

AMAZING INDUSTRIES Floating Factory – Brett Wallace [4:44]
This video is a tour through an imagined social factory that floats in the sky. It is the ultimate manifestation of capital and the Internet. Viewers listen to a narrator whisk them through a factory of the future with drones, mechanical dogs and floating orbs.

Reality is An Image, The Camera is A Spine – Alexandra Banhazl [3:43]
Questioning the nature of the camera and its’ ability to shape our perception of reality in image and by technical apparatuses.

The Grammar serial/Gangland: Verb – Joas-Sebastian Nebe [0:43]
In human evolution language comes into being for making the other understand one´s own position. Later humans developed thought patterns called ideologies. Nowadays, language is not only the language of words but the language of images.
