Francesca Tirpak is a photographer, writer, journalist and designer from San Diego, California. She is taking a gap year from studies in Leeds, England, at Leeds Beckett University, where she studies digital journalism, to intern at DE-CONSTRUKT [projekts]. Her projects during this time will focus on the set-up and maintenance of the new photography studio and darkroom onsite, as well as designing and curating a zine documenting the happenings at the studio and the neighborhood of Red Hook around it as it undergoes changes and development.

Since moving to England from Southern California, Francesca’s pursuits have grown from mainly music journalism, including concert photography and review articles, to more in-depth profile features and portrait photography. Outside of that, she’s delving further into videography and design, with a solid focus still on DIY scenes in art and music, as well as the interactions between people part of the various multifaceted subcultures she comes across.

By combining new skills in design with practiced pursuits in writing and photography, Francesca also curates and publishes a series of zines under the name Contents Under Pressure. The series has one issue out so far, with another due out this summer, and is currently seeking submissions for future issues to be pursued in partnership with fellow San Diego artist Gaib Ramirez. The publication aims to be a celebration of human interactions and a study of what connects us as a group versus what separates us as individuals.
